Sam: I heard that your major is Finance.
David: Yes. Strictly speaking, it's my minor major. My main major is English. I've learned something about money, banking, international finance, corporate finance, and the like.
Sam: That must be an interesting subject.
David: Yes, and I found it's not as simple as I had thought. Before I studied finance systematically, I believed that the bills we use every day to buy things are money.
Sam: Yes, you are right. In terms of finance, however, money consists of far more than paper notes you mentioned.
David: Yes,officially issued coins and paper notes are money. Besides, gold, silver and deposits are also money. Even the credit card is a kind of money.
Sam: You're right. Different kinds of money may differ in their liquidity.
David: What do you mean by liquidity?
Sam: To put it simply, liquidity refers to the quality of different forms of assets to be readily converted into cash. For example, commercial bills are not as liquid as the deposit with the bank.
David: I see… I have many things to study. Sam, do you have some books on this item?
Sam: Yes, I've got some books discussing the fundamentals.
David: Fine, could you take them to me tomorrow?
Sam: Sure.
David: Thank you very much.
