Should old people live in the nursing houses or at their children' s home?
老人养老应该住在养老院还是孩子的家中?
Traditionally, the responsibility to care for an elderly parent or family member falls on their children or grandchildren or basically the whole family. In today' s world, people don' t live as close to their parents and have created lives of their own, which inhibits them from being able to attend to their elderly family members. This has raised the question about how the elderly can be well taken care of.(深圳资深老师解析:开头段交待了养老问题产生的原因,后一句起到启下的作用,引出下文针对在家养老或者在养老院养老的两种看法。)
Some people think in most cases, it would be beneficial for the elderly to stay with their children because no one will care for your loved one like you will. But when there are extenuating circumstances, such as the elderly have extreme health problems where doctors and nurses are needed constantly or they become extremely combative, it is best for them to be at nursing home. Nursing homes are necessary when they have severe cases of health problems, not limited to but including Alzheimer' s or dementia. That way they are monitored around the clock, which creates a better environment to keep them safe.(深圳资深老师解析:主体部分第一段的第一句先表明在家养老好,随后的转折句引出本段的真正立场:当老人因为疾病需要特殊照顾的时候,住养老院胜过住在家里。)
Other people, however, believe that individuals live longer when they are kept around family instead of being in nursing homes. There' s a lot of abuse going on in nursing homes. The workers get paid minimum wages and are overworked because they can' t find jobs at other places due to criminal backgrounds or prior job history. It does not mean that all nursing home workers hate their job or were criminals, but taking care of your elderly loved ones takes sacrifice and commitment. If you were the elder, who would you rather have to take care of you, your own family or someone else that could care less and is only working to make a paycheck?(深圳资深老师解析:该段中的other people…和上一段中的some people…相呼应,大家在自己的写作中可以模仿使用。)
I personally support the idea of the elderly living in nursing houses. There' s also stimulation and activity to consider. Many nursing houses have small single apartment units with staff available 24/7, but also provide exercise, activities, outings and other sociali
sation and stimulation. Elderly people get bored too. Lack of socialisation and stimulation can lead to early onset of dementia, depression and other issues. People that work 40 hours a week while Grandma stays home and watches TV all day aren' t doing her any favours.
