Many parents want their children to go abroad; even those who don't want their children to go abroad also want their kids to master at least one foreign language at school. Some educationalists believe that the abilities of acquiring languages depend on one's talents to some extent. This essay will explore the reasons for both sides and dig out the answers eventually.
For those who believe that students should master some languages besides their native language, there are two main explanations:Firstly, it is more or less an unstoppable trend for people to catch up with the last train of globalization, which makes learning language a must for “Modern” students.
Namely, a good command of foreign languages will be of big help in the future career.Secondly, the whole globe has already shrunk into a village because of the use of the Internet, so that people can easily communicate with friends from England or Canada in English or other languages, without which none of this would be possible on Facebook or YouTube.
However, even if all students should and would learn languages during their school hours, it would be inhumane to discourage them to do so only because they were less talented. From my own personal experience, many great linguists and language killers use hard work and patience instead of talent. The truth is that not all students should learn a second language in their teenage years. Languages should be a special profession like all other majors, but not a skill like driving or cooking. Thus, those who want to learn can learn it well; meanwhile, those who don't want to learn can avoid it well.
In conclusion, the language learning skill is and will be a vital standard for a student as well as for an employee. Nevertheless, not all people should spend time on a foreign language, even should, people can never judge the possibilities by their gift.
