dario: hi brian. what's happening?

brian: not much. i am trying to find something worth watching on tv.

dario: i just spent an hour channel surfing but couldn't find anything.

brian: the radio is the same today. there is nothing interesting to listen to.

dario: have you hit the internet yet? i can usually find something worth reading there.

brian: i am sick of the internet. just the same old websites that take forever to load with my slow modem.

dario: how about a movie? we could head down to the multiplex.

brian: no money in my pockets! i'm broke.

dario: let's play cards then. that's always good for killing a few hours.

brian: ok, but only if we can play for money, maybe i can win enough to go and see a movie later.

达里奥：嗨布莱恩，有什么事?

布莱恩：没什么。我在电视上找一些可看的东西。

达里奥：我刚刚花了一个小时的时间来搜台，不过什么也找不到。

布莱恩：今天的广播也一样。没什么有意思的东西可听。

达里奥：你上网了吗?我通常能在网上找到一些可看的东西。

布莱恩：我讨厌网络。就一些老面孔网站，我的猫(调制解调器)很慢，半天都下载不下来。

达里奥：去看场电影怎么样?我们可以去影城。

布莱恩：口袋里没钱了!我身无分文。

达里奥：那来玩牌吧。这总能打发好几个小时的时间。

布莱恩：好吧，不过我们玩钱的话，也许我能赢上足够的钱晚些时候去看场电影。

dario: studying english can be difficult sometimes, you know.

brian: yeah i know. but it will make a big difference to our future careers, right?

dario: sometimes i ask myself why we do it.

brian: it's so that we can communicate better with people around the world and improve our education.

dario: it also helps to get a better job and we won't have to hire a translator if we want to travel around the world.

brian: we have been studying together for a while now. do you think we are getting somewhere?

dario: sure we are. every week we get better and better. we have learned a lot in the last few months.

brian: there are so many different ways to improve our english. how do i choose the best one?

dario: i don't think there is an easy way. the best way is practice, practice and practice.

brian: i agree - although it's hard work, it gets the best results.

dario: practicing with a good, reliable friend like xianzai also helps!

达里奥：你知道有时候学英文挺难的。

布莱恩：没错，我知道。不过这将对我们以后的事业产生很大的影响，对吗?

达里奥：有时候我问我自己我们为什么要这么做。

布莱恩：这样我们就可以更好地和世界各地的人们交流，同时可以提高我们的受教育程度。

达里奥：这么做还有助于我们找一份更好的工作，而且如果我们做环球旅行的话，我们就不用雇翻译了。

布莱恩：我们一起学英文也有一段时间了，你觉得我们有进步吗?

达里奥：当然了。我们每周都有进步，这几个月以来我们学到了很多东西。

布莱恩：提高英语有很多种不同的方法。我怎样选择一种最好的方法呢?

达里奥：我不认为有什么捷径。最好的办法就是练习、练习、再练习。

布莱恩：我同意―虽然很辛苦，但会取得最好的效果。

达里奥：与一个好的、像现在网一样可靠的朋友一起练习也会有帮助!

dario: what do you think are the two most important things for being a good friend?

brian: that's a tough question dario.

dario: i know but you are so smart that i am sure you can answer it.

brian: well, the most important thing is honesty.

dario: can you give me an example?

brian: if your best friend asks you if his haircut is cool, but it isn't, you have to be honest.

dario: can't you just tell a small white lie so you don't hurt his feelings?

brian: no way! if friends can't be honest with each other, then who can?

dario: what is the second thing?

brian: generosity.

dario: so i have to give you everything that i own?

brian: that's right - and no trying to hide anything!

戴瑞奥：你认为当一个好朋友最重要的两件事是什么?

布莱恩：这个问题可不容易回答戴瑞奥。

戴瑞奥：我知道不容易，可你那么聪明我相信你一定能回答出来。

布莱恩：好吧，最重要的事就是诚实。

戴瑞奥：你能给我举个例子吗?

布莱恩：如果你最好的朋友问你他的发型是不是很酷，可实际上并不酷，你就得老实告诉他。

戴瑞奥：你就不能撒一个小小的善意谎言吗，这样就不会伤害到他的感情。

布莱恩：不行!如果朋友之间都不能互相坦诚，那谁还能这么做?

戴瑞奥：第二件事是什么?

布莱恩：慷慨。

戴瑞奥：这么说我得把我所有的东西都给你了?

布莱恩：没错，别想隐藏任何东西!

dario: brian, can you find another study partner?

brian: but i really enjoy studying with you, dario.

dario: just for today. i can study with you again next week.

brian: what's the problem today?

dario: it sounds stupid, but i drank too much coffee this morning and now i can't concentrate.

brian: i didn't know that coffee could do that to you.

dario: sure can. i love coffee but if i have too much, it's bad for me!

brian: moderation in everything is the answer.

dario: moderation for studying english as well?

brian: well, maybe not everything!

戴瑞奥：布莱恩，你能再找一个学习伙伴吗?

布莱恩：可是我真的很喜欢跟你一起学习，戴瑞奥。

戴瑞奥：就今天一天。下个星期我会再跟你一起学习。

布莱恩：今天有什么问题吗?

戴瑞奥：说起来很可笑，我今天早晨咖啡喝得太多了，现在我不能集中精力。

布莱恩：我不知道咖啡对你会有那么大的作用。

戴瑞奥：当然会。我喜欢喝咖啡，可如果喝多了就会出现不良反应。

布莱恩：做任何事情都要适度才行。

戴瑞奥：学习英语也要适度吗?

布莱恩：也许不是每一件事情。
